Our herd foundation began in the late 70s when Bud Fortune saw the potential of Angus cattle thriving in our environment of Western South Dakota. He began building the herd slowly through commercial and registered heifers and bulls bought from Sitz, N Bar, and other well known genetics. In 1992 and 93, he decided to sell most of the cow herd and purchase a semi load of Sitz bred heifers. This kick started the herd we have today, and have had been promoted over the years from great foundation sires of; Sitz Traveler 043, N Bar Playboy, N Bar Nitro, Sitz Valubull, Koupal Juneau 797, and many more. This along with our AI program dating back to 1987, has allowed us to reach for the best genetics possible. Our focus has always been maternally driven in creating cows that thrive and produce in our environment season after season.

Trailing Pairs in the badlands

Life on the Triangle S Ranch

Located in the Badlands of South Dakota, we are blessed with rough country and natural protection for the winter and calving season. We run a registered black angus herd.

We keep the vast majority of our heifer calves for replacements. Aiing them and calving them out for their first calving season. Then we offer a select group of bred coming 3yr olds in January at Ft. Pierre Livestock. We love watching these girls go on and become fertile and functional females that do their job year after year.

Then onto our private treaty bull sale. In the middle of February, we host an open house bull day for anyone and everyone to come view and purchase bulls of their liking. People are welcome to come see the bulls anytime before the sale day. After the bulls are a year old, we semen test them and deliver them to their new homes.

Our last offering of the year is the spring calving dispersal. The end of April we sell any cows that haven't calved to wrap up the calving season. It is always bittersweet to see these girls go down the road.
